Asami Nakashima


Asami Nakashima was born in Osaka, Japan, and began her training in her hometown at the young age of six. In 2008, she took her talents to the Vienna State Opera Ballet School and graduated in 2010. The following year, she joined the Ballet of Slovene National Theatre Maribor where she quickly made her mark. Nakashima’s impressive repertoire includes leading roles in ballets such as Kitri in Don Quixote, Medora and Gulnare in Le Corsaire, Clara and Sugarplum fairy in Nutcracker, and Sylph in La Sylphide. She has also danced in works by renowned choreographers such as Alexander Ekman, Jiří Kylián, Johan Inger, Mauro Bigonzetti, and Edward Clug, including his Carmina Burana, Hill Harper’s Dream, Stabat Mater, Tango, Watching Others, Prêt-à-porter, Peer Gynt (Anitra, Solveig, Ingrid), and The Rite of Spring (The chosen one).Nakashima has received numerous accolades throughout her career, including the bronze medal at the 27th Varna International Ballet Competition in 2016, the gold medal at the Rudolf Nureyev International Ballet Competition in 2019, and two special prizes awarded by the Slovene Ballet Artists Association in 2011 and 2017. With her talent and dedication, Nakashima has had the privilege of performing at prestigious galas in Japan, Latvia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and her current home in Slovenia. She is a rising star in the world of ballet and continues to captivate audiences with her grace and skill on stage.
