Jan Trninič


Jan Trninič began his professional career while still a student at the Conservatory for Music and Ballet Maribor, performing in productions of the Ballet of the Slovene National Theatre Maribor. During this period, he appeared in The Nutcracker (choreography by David Nixon), Swan Lake (Valeriy Kaftun), Giselle (Rafael Avnikjan), Don Quixote (Krzysztof Nowogrodzki), Carmina Burana (Edward Clug), Peer Gynt (Edward Clug) and The Rite of Spring (Edward Clug). He also created several notable roles, including Tadzio in Death in Venice (choreography by Valentina Turcu), the title role in Kekec (Edward Clug), and the Groom in Les Noces (Edward Clug).

Since 2022, he has been engaged as a soloist with the Estonian National Opera Ballet, where he has established himself in a broad classical and contemporary repertoire. His roles include Ali and Birbanto in Le Corsaire (José Carlos Martínez), the Bluebird in The Sleeping Beauty (Thomas Edur), roles in The Nutcracker (Ben Stevenson; Gyula Harangozó), Swan Lake (Thomas Edur), Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (Gyula Harangozó – Dopey), Suite en blanc (Serge Lifar), Pulcinella (Clairmarie Osta), Jeu de Cartes (Sergei Upkin – Joker), A Streetcar Named Desire (Annabelle Lopez Ochoa – Mitch), Anna Karenina (Marina Kesler) and Alice in Wonderland (Gianluca Schiavoni – White Rabbit).

In 2025, Jan Trninič returned to the Slovene National Theatre Maribor as a soloist, where he made his debut in the title role of The Nutcracker in The Nutcracker.

He is the recipient of numerous awards at national and international ballet competitions, including multiple first prizes at the Slovenian State Ballet Competition and the TUTU Slovenia Ballet Competition, a gold medal at the International Ballet Competition in Zagreb, as well as awards at competitions in Vienna, Sarajevo and elsewhere. He regularly performs at gala concerts across Europe, presenting both classical pas de deux and contemporary choreographies.

He has further developed his artistic skills through international workshops and training programmes, including the Royal Ballet Academy in Antwerp, the Hungarian Dance Academy, and ballet schools in Milan, Tuscany and Munich.
