LIKE NIGHT AND DAY
This new children’s production is based on the book Like Night and Day by acclaimed Slovene author Cvetka Sokolov. It features Barbara and Dominik, two nine-year-olds who are best friends – and as different as night and day. Humorous situations, their playful conflicts, sharp dialogue, reflective monologues, unexpected twists, and clever observations all come together to shape a vibrant portrait of a boy-and-girl world that is anything but black and white. Over the course of a single class period, the two actors will not only entertain young audiences with witty episodes from the lives of the two friends, but also demonstrate, under the direction of Mateja Kokol, how teachers can transform literature into a stage production. The performance shows how to turn a classroom into a theatrical space, how to use props to conjure new settings, and how to create a full theatre experience using only simple tools – bringing stories to life right inside the classroom. The stage adaptation is written by dramaturg Maja Borin, and the production is part of the sustainable theatre initiative pursued by the Maribor Drama within the international project STAGES.
