WHAT KIND OF NAME IS THAT?!
WHAT KIND OF NAME IS THAT?!
In the contemporary French comedy What Kind of Name Is That?! (2010), authors Matthieu Delaporte and Alexandre de La Patellière craft sharp and witty dialogue set in the intimacy of a domestic setting – one that inadvertently exposes the psychological undercurrents of today’s society. What begins as an ordinary evening among family and friends is quickly unsettled by a seemingly minor provocation: the choice of a name for an unborn child. What at first appears to be a harmless topic soon spirals into a storm of sarcasm, prejudice, wounded egos, and long-suppressed grievances – familiar to all, though rarely admitted. The first Slovenian staging of this Molière Award-winning comedy (Best French Comedy, 2011) will be brought to the Small Stage by emerging Hungarian director Bálint Szilágyi. His focus will lie in exploring who we become when we stop self-censoring – and what remains of friendship once honesty erupts. With its uncomfortable relevance and razor-sharp insight, What Kind of Name Is That?! reveals how an entire drama can be triggered by a single word – or a single name.
