Yury Makhrov


Yury Makhrov is a Russian-German tenor who earned his master’s degree with distinction from the Gnesin Academy of Music in Moscow. He further refined his artistry at the Accademia Rossiniana in Italy and in the Oper Oder Spree programme in Germany. He is a laureate of several Russian and European vocal competitions.

He made his operatic debut in 2014 as Damon in Handel’s Acis and Galatea at the Moscow International House of Music. In 2016 he appeared as the Young Sailor in Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde at the Nova Opera, and in 2017 as Brighella in Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos at the Moscow Philharmonic under Vladimir Jurowski. At the Zaryadye Concert Hall he performed Lensky in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin (2022) and Walter in Wagner’s Tannhäuser (2025).

His European debut took place in 2016 in Berlin as Belfiore in Mozart’s La finta giardiniera. Subsequent engagements include Tebaldo in Bellini’s I Capuleti e i Montecchi (Estonia, Lithuania 2019), Lindoro in Rossini’s L’italiana in Algeri (Netherlands, 2019), Celimene in Vivaldi’s La verità in cimento (Germany, 2020), Narciso in Rossini’s Il turco in Italia (Estonia, Lithuania 2021), and the Young Man in Goldschmidt’s The Seven Deadly Sins (Berlin, 2025). He has also performed in major Chinese concert halls, including Shanghai, Harbin and Guangzhou (2019).

Makhrov has gained international recognition as a concert and oratorio soloist. Highlights of his repertoire include Schubert’s Mass in E-flat with the Nuremberg Philharmonic (2016), the Evangelist in Bach’s St John Passion and tenor roles in the St Matthew Passion (Netherlands 2019, 2020, 2022). In 2019 he performed Scriabin’s Symphony No. 1 with the Russian National Orchestra conducted by Mikhail Pletnev at the Septembre Musical festival in Switzerland. He has also appeared as the tenor soloist in Orff’s Carmina Burana (Vietnam, 2022) and in Haydn’s The Creation with the Novosibirsk Philharmonic (2025).
