Blaž Stajnko
Blaž Stajnko is a Slovenian bass-baritone currently completing his Master’s degree in vocal performance at the Academy of Music, University of Ljubljana, under Matjaž Robavs. He simultaneously studies voice and music theatre at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz with Matjaž Robavs, Ingo Kerkhof, and Gerrit Prießnitz. He began his musical education as a pianist at the Maribor Conservatory.
He is a prizewinner of numerous national and international competitions, including top prizes at TEMSIG (2019, 2022, 2025), the Young Singer Award at SGSM (2023), and a gold prize at IMMCC Maribor (2024). In 2026, he won second prize at the ZukunftsStimmen competition in Vienna under the patronage of Elīna Garanča. He also received the Prešeren Award of the University of Ljubljana Academy of Music (2024/2025).
As a soloist, he has performed with orchestras across Europe, including the Symphony Orchestra of Friuli Venezia Giulia under Paolo Paroni, the RTV Slovenia Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Slovene National Theatre Maribor, and the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra, performing Mozart’s Requiem under Stephen Layton.
In 2025, he won the Grand Prix at the Oper Oder Spree international opera workshop in Germany, leading to an engagement in Im weißen Rössl (2026). He has also appeared in gala concerts with the Preußisches Kammerorchester. In 2026, he was selected for the prestigious Young Singers Project at the Salzburg Festival.
His operatic repertoire includes Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro), Achilla (Giulio Cesare in Egitto), Seneca (L’incoronazione di Poppea), Betto (Gianni Schicchi), and Lesbo (Agrippina), alongside contemporary works and premieres by Slovenian composers.
He is also active as a choral and ensemble singer, collaborating with Hugo Wolf Chamber Choir, Glasbena matica Ljubljana Chamber Choir, and the vocal ensemble Virilis, and appears as an additional chorus member at SNG Maribor, SNG Ljubljana, and the Croatian National Theatre Rijeka.
