The accordion and the bandoneon – two instruments that in recent decades have found their way from streets and dance halls into concert venues and attracted the attention of contemporary composers. The evening presents a selection of newer music for this unusual combination, in which bellows meet the string quartet: two sound families that rarely appear together but, in the hands of the right performers, form a surprisingly rich palette of colours. The soloist of the evening is Matjaž Balažic, one of the few Slovenian musicians who master both instruments – accordion and bandoneon – with assurance and places them in a fruitful, creative dialogue with established concert literature.
