The final concert of the Symphony Series combines contemporary narrative imagination, the elegant virtuosity of the Romantic concerto repertoire and the Classical radiance of Beethoven’s symphonic language. Under the baton of Živa Ploj Peršuh, the programme opens with Leon Firšt’s The Story of Ifugao, a work that suggests a musical bridge between cultures through rhythm, colour and orchestral storytelling. Tchaikovsky’s Variations on a Rococo Theme then brings the cello to the fore in a refined dialogue of melodic grace and virtuoso brilliance. Marking the 200th anniversary of Beethoven’s death, the cycle closes with his Fourth Symphony, a masterpiece in which formal clarity, mystery, expressive vitality and creative freedom are held in exquisite balance.
