3rd Concert | New Sonorities, the Imperial Power of the Piano and a Symphony of Radiance
SNG Maribor Symphony Orchestra
Conductor: Valentin Egel
Soloist: Nejc Kamplet, piano
Matej Bonin: New Work (TBA)
Ludwig van Beethoven: Piano Concerto No. 5 in E-flat major, Op. 73, “Emperor”
Johannes Brahms: Symphony No. 2 in D major, Op. 73
The third concert brings together contemporary Slovenian creativity, the grandeur of concert pianism and one of the most radiant symphonic scores of late Romanticism. The evening opens with a new work by Matej Bonin, whose music is marked by a keen ear for sound texture, dramaturgical clarity and compositional focus. Beethoven’s Fifth Piano Concerto, known as the “Emperor”, then places the pianist at the centre of a majestic dialogue with the orchestra. The evening concludes with Brahms’s Second Symphony, a work often associated with serenity and pastoral light, yet shaped by psychological depth, motivic cohesion and a deeply moving lyricism
