2nd Concert | From the Virtuosity of a Sensitive Style to the Monumental Symphonism of Romanticism

SNG Maribor Symphony Orchestra
Conductor: Michael Form
Soloist: Eva-Nina Kozmus, flute

Franz Schubert: Overture in D major, D. 74R (reconstructed by M. Form after D 74A)

Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach: Flute Concerto in D minor, Wq. 22, H. 425

Anton Bruckner: Symphony No. 1 in C minor, WAB 101 (Linz version, 1868)

The second concert spans a broad historical arc, from early Classical virtuosity to the monumental symphonic architecture of the nineteenth century. Schubert’s Overture in D major, reconstructed by conductor Michael Form, offers a valuable glimpse into the early impulses of a master of lyrical orchestral writing. C. P. E. Bach’s Flute Concerto in D minor, performed by Eva-Nina Kozmus, reveals the expressive flexibility and refined sensitivity of a composer who helped shape the transition from Baroque to Classicism. The second half is devoted to Bruckner’s First Symphony in its original Linz version, a powerful work in which the composer’s characteristic sound blocks, contrasts and spiritual tension already point toward his later symphonic world.
