Three musicians, three scores, three different worlds. Mozart’s Piano Quartet in G minor – a work rejected by its publisher as too difficult for salon audiences – will open a musical evening that concludes with Brahms’s Third Piano Quartet, regarded as one of the darkest confessions in all chamber literature. Between them comes a string trio from the margins: Cras’s, written by a naval officer and illuminated by the modal light of the Breton coast. Three scores that prove chamber music can carry an entire world in an ensemble of four instruments.
