Martin Sušnik

The Slovenian tenor Martin Sušnik was born in Australia, and has lived in Slovenia since his childhood. He is finishing his studies in singing at the Academy of Music in the class of Pija Brodnik. He successfully participated in various competitions in Slovenia and abroad, and has already won three first prizes: in 2007 at the First International Competition Ithaka, in 2008 at the 37th Competition for Young Slovenian Musicians (TEMSIG), following with the first prize together at the same competition in 2010. For his achievements in the academic year 2010/2011, he won the student Prešeren award. He regularly performs at concerts in Slovenia and abroad, often with various choirs, chamber ensembles, etc. He performed with various orchestras, such as the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestra of the Slovene National Theatre Opera and Ballet Ljubljana, Slovenian Police Orchestra, the Slovenian Army Orchestra, the Zagreb Philharmonic, etc. He sang with great success both Mozart’s Requiem and St. John Passion by J. S. Bach with the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra. In November 2009, he made a successful debut at Ljubljana opera house in the role of Edoardo Milfort in Rossini’s opera The Marriage Contract. He also sang the title role in the Peter Šavli’s one-act opera Pastir (The Shepherd). He toured at the Royal Opera of Versailles and the Opéra Comique in Paris, where he performed in Johann Christian Bach’s opera Amadis de Gaule. He made a remarkable debut with the role of Romuald in Slovene opera The Black Masks by Marij Kogoj (staged at the Opera SNG Maribor), performed the role of Camille de Rosillon in Lehár’s operetta The Merry Widow, and debuted as Nemorino in Donizetti's L’elisir d’amore (both at the Opera SNG Maribor). Later on, he became a regular soloist of the Opera SNG Maribor, where he debuted in the role of Duke of Mantova (Rigoletto), Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni), and Lensky (Yevgeny Onegin), Ballad-seller and Rinuccio (Puccini’s Il tabarro and Gianni Schicchi), Messenger in Verdi’s grand opera Aida, Lindoro (L’italiana in Algeri), Count Almaviva (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Chevalier de la Force (Dialogues des carmélites), Nick (La fanciulla del West) and Tamino (Die Zauberflöte), and most recently as Ernesto (Don Pasquale), Loge (Das Rheingold) and Rodolfo (La bohème).
