Dan Kalousek

After passing his school-leaving exam at grammar school, he completed his studies at the Secondary School of Performing Arts in Brno, specializing in composition and conducting. He graduated from the orchestra conducting specialization at the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno. In 2006-2008, he studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Leipzig and then in Weimar and, as part of the master courses, he met the conductors Kurt Masur, Fabio Luisi and Zsolt Nagy.

As the choir master of Ars Brunensis Chorus, he has lead them in giving many concerts both in the Czech Republic and abroad. He has worked on projects with Jiří Pavlica, the band Jablkoň and many others. He has also cooperated with formations such as Jenaer Madrigalkreis, Bohemiachor, the choir of the Summer School of Baroque Music, the Brno Academic Choir and many chamber orchestras and choirs.

He also regularly cooperates with music composer Vladimír Franz, particularly in the recording of his background music for leading Czech theatres, radio and television. He has recorded a great number of recordings, particularly the compositions of contemporary authors for the publishing houses Naxos, Vienna Modern Masters, Supraphon, Capstone records, Querstand and others.

Since 2003 he has been working as a guest conductor in Brno City Theatre where he has prepared and conducted several performances.Currently he has been a music director in Brno City Theatre. He teaches in Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno.
