Claudio Maria Micheli

Conductor Claudio Maria Micheli was born in Rome, where he started to take lessons in music at very tender age. After graduating from the classical guitar in the class of Professor Bruno Battista D'Amaria at the Conservatory of St. Cecilia, he went on with his music studies. His passion for opera led him to study composition and conducting. In 1991 he made his debut with the cycle of concerts in major theaters in Germany, in which he performed along with the renowned tenor Giuseppe di Stefano with great success. Since then, he conducted various concerts, as well as opera and ballet production more than a thousand times, mostly in France, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Russia, Ukraine, South Korea, Albania and elsewhere. He conducted top opera singers, such as Ghena Dimitrova, Bonaldo Giaiotti, José Carreras, Nunzio Todisco, Lando Bartolini, Nicola Martinucci, Giuseppe Taddei, and many others. In addition to staple opera and ballet repertoire (Rigoletto, Il trovatore, La traviata, Aida, Otello, Nabucco, Un ballo in maschera, La forza del destino, Macbeth, Tosca, La bohème, Madama Butterfly, Manon Lescaut, Turandot, The Triptych, L’elisir d’amore, Don Pasquale, Lucia di Lammermoor, The Barber of Seville, Norma, Don Giovanni, The Nutcracker, The Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty, Giselle, Bolero, Pulcinella, Romeo and Juliet, etc.) he has an extensive symphony repertoire. From 2000 to 2003 he collaborated with legendary renowned film music composer Ennio Morricone, whose music was recorded at famous venues such as the Arena in Verona, Convention Hall in Paris, Campi Flegrei in Naples, etc. He is also the director of the ensemble Ruggiero Giovannelli, with whom he recorded a CD of compositions by R. Giovannelli (Palestrina’s pupil and epigone). He is also active as the artistic director of the Musical Centre of Arcangelo Corelli. He is the chief executive of the Roman Orchestra Nova Amadeus; he was also the music director of the Ballet Festival in Piacenza, of the dance event "Vigevano Ballet Festival”, Festival "Lario Lirica” in Como and the festival Golden Harlequin ("Arlecchino d'Oro”) in Mantua. He is also the president of the International Singing Competition "Città di Colleferro” from 1995, and permanent director and jury member of the international singing competition "Mattia Battistini”. Since 2005 he is the principal conductor of the Festival "Lirica and Piazza” of the town Massa Marittima in south Tuscany. For his artistic achievements he received the gold medal "Mario del Monaco”, and was entered in the Golden Book of Velletri. Mr Micheli is also the music director and principal conductor of the Roma Electric Orchestra, constituted of young musicians up to 23 years. He also appeared in Benigni’s film La vita è bella, conduction Barcarolle from Offenbach’s opera The Tales of Hoffmann.
