Darko Vidic
Slovene baritone Darko Vidic studied singing at the Conservatory of music in Ljubljana (in the class of Prof. Janko Volčanšek). At the moment, he is completing his master’s degree in singing at the Academy of music (in the class of Prof. Matjaž Robavs) in Ljubljana. He entered several state competitions in the category of singing, and won the maximum of 100 points and gold medal. In 2011, he was awarded with the scholarship of the Richard Wagner foundation. His first music experience was singing in various vocal ensembles and choirs, among them being several distinguished Slovenian and internationally renowned vocal ensembles (Chamber Choir Ave, APZ Tone Tomšič, Radio Slovenia Choir, Vocal Academy Ljubljana, Ljubljana Opera Choir, Octet Valvasor, World Youth Choir). As a concert singer, he performed with the Slovene Philharmonic Orchestra, Slovene Radio and Television Orchestra, Big Band of Slovene Radio and Television, as well as SNG Opera and Ballet Symphony Orchestra. In January 2012, he made his debut as Lorenzo’s double in Kogoj’s Black Masks (staged at the Maribor Opera). His next debut was the role of the Father in the world premiere of Ljubezen-kapital (Love-Capital) by a Slovene contemporary composer Jani Golob (staged at the National Opera in Ljubljana, June 2012). In July 2012, he performed the role of Pluto in Monteverdi’s opera L’Orfeo (Orpheus), produced by the Academy of music in Ljubljana and staged at the National Opera in Ljubljana. His career took a new turn after his successful debut as Schaunard in Puccini’s opera La bohème in November 2012 (staged at the Ljubljana Opera), following by further engagements (either in Ljubljana and Maribor Opera) as Lovro in Foerster’s comic opera Gorenjski slavček (The Nightingale of Gorenjska), Count Ceprano (Verdi’s Rigoletto), Haly (L’italiana in Algeri, 2014), Gamekeeper and Hunter (Rusalka), Orfeo (L’Orfeo), Sonora (La fanciulla del West), Marcello, Alcindoro (La bohème), Jupiter (Orphée aux enfers), etc. Since 2012, Darko Vidic is the member of the prestigious Slovene chamber vocal ensemble, the Slovene Octet. In the academic year 2012/2013, he received the Prešeren award for students for his artist excellence in latest achievements.
