Sung Kyu Park


Tenor Sung Kyu Park studied singing at the Sham-Yook University in Seoul, the International Singing School in Flaine, France, and in Italy with Katia Ricciarelli and Vittorio Terranova. He also earned a degree in vocal performance from the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Milan.

Throughout his career, he has received numerous prestigious awards, including first prizes at the international competitions “Ruggero Leoncavallo” in Cosenza, “Flaviano Labò” in Piacenza, “Riccardo Zandonai” in Riva del Garda, and the “D’Opera” competition in Marseille.

Among the tenor’s most distinguished and successful portrayals are roles such as Calaf (Turandot), Des Grieux (Manon Lescaut), Radamès (Aida), Pollione (Norma), Gabriele Adorno (Simon Boccanegra), the title role in Verdi’s Ernani, Riccardo (Un ballo in maschera), Turiddu (Cavalleria rusticana), Jacopo Foscari (I due Foscari), Faust (Mefistofele), Bacchus (Ariadne auf Naxos), Cavaradossi (Tosca), and Benjamin F. Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly), among many others.

With these acclaimed interpretations, he has appeared at numerous opera houses throughout Europe, including Theater Kiel, where he has performed the largest number of roles to date, Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari, the Prague State Opera, the Royal Opera House in London, Teatro San Carlo in Naples, Theater Bonn, the Rome Opera, Teatro Filarmonico in Verona, Landestheater Linz, the Puccini Festival in Torre del Lago, and Teatro Verdi in Trieste.

He also performs regularly around the world, including appearances in Japan (NHK Hall Tokyo), South Korea (Seoul Arts Center, Korea National Opera, and Sejong Center), and Chile (Municipal Theatre of Santiago).

Throughout his career, he has shared the stage with renowned sopranos such as Dimitra Theodossiou and Anna Pirozzi, and has collaborated with internationally acclaimed conductors including Julian Kovatchev, Nello Santi, Daniele Callegari, and Myung-Whun Chung.

His broad artistic range is further reflected in performances of the tenor parts in Verdi’s Requiem and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, as well as appearances in productions of Puccini’s La bohème, Massenet’s Esclarmonde, Lehár’s The Land of Smiles, and Verdi’s Il trovatore and Rigoletto.
