The Slovene tenor Dušan Topolovec has been a regular member of Maribor Opera since 1990, at first as a choir singer; in 2003, he was promoted to the position of soloist. He studied singing at the Conservatory of music and ballet in Maribor. During the establishment of Opera studio at the Maribor Opera he made a debut appearance as Count Almaviva in Rossini’s opera The Barber of Seville. contes d’Hoffmann (Andrès, Spalanzani), Madama Butterfly (Goro, Prince Yamadori), La traviata (Gaston), The Queen of Spades (Tchekalinsky), The Magic Flute (Monostatos), Lakmé (Hadji), Carmen (Remendado), Tosca (Spoletta), Die Fledermaus (Eisenstein), Werther (Schmidt), Rigoletto (Borsa), Norma (Flavio), I due Foscari (Barbarigo), I Pagliacci (Peppe/Arlecchino), Dido and Aeneas (Sailor), La forza del destino (Trabuco), Gounod’s Romeo and Juliet (Tybalt) – to name just a few. He sang in many
world premieres and operas by contemporary Slovene composers, such as Krog s kredo (A Chalk Circle) by Slavko Osterc, in horror opera Pesnik in upornik (A Poet and a Rebel) by Tomaž Svete, Al’ pekel al’ nebo (Either Hell Or Heaven) by Aldo Kumar, and in fairy-tale opera Kdor upa, ne odneha (Whoever Hopes, Never Gives Up) by Vitja Avsec. He also performed as the jester Ecco in Kogoj’s opera Črne maske (The Black Masks), and most recently in the world premiere of Granatno jabolko (Pomegranate)
by Tomaž Svete. He toured with Maribor Opera in Portugal, Japan, Italy, and Taiwan.
