Regulations of the International Young Opera Singers’ Competition

10th–12th June 2010, Maribor

 

1. The competition is open to singers not older than 30 years (soprano, baritone) and 35 years (tenors, bass, mezzosoprano) respectively.


2. Condition to enter the competition is the candidate’s correctly filled out entry form, to which he/she must attach:

-                Copies of birth certificate and passport,

-                A short curriculum vitae with photo,

-                Exact address, contact number(s), and e-mail,

-                Copies of education certificates (music school, academy, private tutors, etc.),

-                Piano scores (reductions) of selected programme (arias).


3. The candidates must prepare five arias of their choice, all in original language (and indicate the title, author, opera, role, and act). All candidates are requested to provide piano scores (reductions) of prepared arias. All contestants (with no exceptions) are obliged to perform in all rounds of the competition. All performances are open to public.


4. The competition has three (3) rounds, the preliminary round, semifinal and finale. Candidates should indicate the order of performance of the arias, which will be taken into consideration only in preliminary round of the competition. In all subsequent rounds (semifinal and finale) the performance order will be decided by the jury.


5. The entry deadline is May 23rd 2010 (at 24.00 hrs).


6. The entry fee in the amount of 50 EUR is imposed on the participants and should be paid at the check (registration) point on the spot before the beginning of the competition. The finalists performing in the finale, in which the prizes will be given, as well as in the Gala concert, are all without royalties.


7. The international jury consists of 9 members who are not to be related to candidates. Members of the jury, who have had professional and educational contacts with the contestants during the past two years, are not permitted to give marks to them.


8. In the preliminary round of the competition the jury will make marks with “yes“ or “no“, while the semifinal and final results will be reached through arithmetic scoring, in order to get an average mark. The candidates with the highest average score is the winner. The results will be announced after the appearance of each group.


9. The organizer of the competition will provide piano accompanists, even though it is possible the candidates provide their own accompanists at their own expense.


10. The prize bestowal and the proclamation of winners will take place after the finals (with the orchestra).


Prizes

1st prize: 4.000,00 EUR, and a guaranteed role with the Opera and Ballet Maribor, in agreement with the Artistic Director of Opera and Ballet Maribor

2nd prize: 2.000,00 EUR

3rd prize: 1.000,00 EUR
